A FOX cub who survived a road accident which killed his sibling is recovering at a local vets.

The cub, who is thought to be approximately five weeks old, was crossing Tewkesbury Way with his mother and brother or sister on Tuesday when a car struck them.

One of the cubs was killed and it is not known what happened to the mother.

The surviving male cub suffered a head injury and was taken to Drove Vets where he was treated by Alexandra Alves.

His situation was touch and go but he is beginning to show signs of recovery.

Alexandra said: “He was sneezing blood and his mental state was what we would classify as a pre-coma.

“He received emergency treatment and was treated in a similar way to a puppy. We put him in an incubator, kept him in overnight and on oxygen.

“He is now showing signs of improvement which is very rewarding and we are feeling a lot more optimistic than we were when he was presented to us.

“He still has a long way to go but he is feeding now and this was absent when he first came in, so that will help quite a lot with him getting better.”

If the cub pulls through, he will be taken to the Oak and Furrows Wildlife Rescue Centre in Somerford Keynes.

The centre, which is a registered charity, takes in about 3,000 wildlife casualties every year.
