WHEN the mic’s in his hand and he takes to the stand –that’s Di Canio.

Fans have been singing his name all season but now Town boss Paolo Di Canio will be repaying the favour by picking up the microphone with Toploader to sing their most famous hit Dancing In The Moonlight at Swindon Town’s Party on the Pitch event on Sunday at the County Ground.

The charismatic Italian, fresh from scoring a hat-trick in the Wiltshire Air Ambulance charity game on Wednesday, is hoping to learn the words to the popular 2000 hit ahead of the performance.

He said: “I am looking forward to the Party on the Pitch on Sunday because now is the moment to celebrate.

“Maybe we will try and sing, but I will go there with a gun and if someone laughs at me I will shoot them. But seriously, why not?

“It depends what song they are going to propose for me to sing and then we will see and I will see if I know the words.”

The event, headlined by The Lightning Seeds and featuring Fran Cinelli, will also see fans get a chance to pose with the League Two trophy and enjoy a quiz with the players.

It has been designed to thank fans for their outstanding support during the campaign and to also stage the traditional end of season awards. The two side stands and pitch area will be open with a stage to be erected in front of the Stratton Bank.

Catering and refreshments will be available throughout the day and a special event programme, priced at £5, will be available to purchase.

Around 4,000 tickets have been sold so far.

Mark Isaacs, operations manager for the club, said: “Paolo’s been given the words and I’ve heard him practising.

“We really want everyone in Swindon to feel they can come to this event and enjoy it – it’s not just for fans but for the community too. There are plenty of family events and things for the kids to do on the day.”

Tickets are free for anyone who has a season ticket for this season or next season, while they can buy one additional ticket for £5.

Non-season ticket holders who present a Wembley stub or their Port Vale ticket can get in for £5 or general admission is £10.

Tickets are available in person from the STFC Box Office or via phone on 0871 876 1993.
