A GANG of hooded youths armed with bricks forced a takeaway delivery driver to hand over four pizzas and some ice cream in a pre-meditated attack.

The group of eight teens called the Pizza Hut in Groundwell Road and ordered a delivery to an address in Taplow Walk, Park South, at about 11.45pm last Thursday.

They then ambushed the 40-year-old victim, threatened him with a plank of wood and some bricks and demanded he hand over the food before making off in the area of Wimpole Close.

The driver, who is understood to have worked for the firm for around three years, was left shaken but unharmed in the unprovoked attack.

Dan Roberts, duty manager of Pizza Hut in Groundwell Road, said: “The driver was pretty wary when he was back in work on the Saturday. It happened before a few weeks ago in Park South, but that time the driver managed to get away in his car. That is the only other time I’ve heard of it happening.”

Detective Constable Melissa Carr, of the Priority Crime Team, appealed for anyone who knows those involved to give the police information.

She said: “This was a pre-planned offence – they called the takeaway to an address and when the victim got there they surrounded him.

“It is a dead end road and the street was pretty deserted at that time of night.

“He turned up at Taplow Walk, realised it was a hoax call and when he returned to his car a number of males surrounded him. Three of them had bikes and another five were standing.

“A couple of them threatened him with bricks and a one metre plank of wood and demanded he hand over the pizza and ice cream – that was what they were after, they did not want any cash.

“The victim was very shaken up. He has been a delivery driver with the firm for three years and nothing like this has ever happened to him.

“There was a similar incident with an alcohol delivery driver at the beginning of the year in Parks but this is a one-off incident.”

The gang are described as being white and all wearing hoodies, and police are asking people to come forward and identify them.
