CHARITY work is tops for volunteers at Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline after they pulled on their new uniforms for the first time.

Shirts and sweaters, emblazoned with the charity’s logo, were acquired thanks to a major discount from Michael’s Workwear, in Gorse Hill. Manager Lynette Corengia hailed the new look as a milestone for the shop, which opened seven months ago in Victoria Road, Old Town.

She said: “This is a nice moment for our workers who are all volunteers and have given their time generously over the past seven months.

“We have a fantastic band of volunteers from all ages and backgrounds, boys and girls, who have helped the shop go from strength to strength, as well as students from Churchfields Academy on work experience and another 10 children coming in August.

“We have lots of plans, including old-fashioned English teas with jam and scones from next week.

“On the weekend of the Jubilee celebrations we will also be serving up knickerbocker glories and cream teas.

“To get the uniform ahead of a busy summer is fantastic.”
