THE Janice Thompson Performance Trust is providing free choral workshops at five schools to form a junior choir for Swindon: The Opera.

The opera, which is funded by the Big Lottery, will be performed by the people of Swindon on July 7 and 8 at the Steam Museum.

Children from Orchid Vale Primary School, Colebrook Junior School, Westlea Primary School, Haydonleigh Primary School and Lydiard Park Academy are taking part.

The workshops are being run by Jessie Thompson, education manager and coach for Swindon: The Opera.

Jessie said: “It’s great fun going into schools and teaching the children to sing.

“They really seem to be enjoying themselves and are trying their best. The children have such beautiful voices.”

Amy Cole, vocal coach at the JTP Trust, will be their conductor for all four performances.

Cameron Delaney, a student at Lydiard Park Academy, said: “I think the singing lessons are good and they help my singing.

“My favourite bit is learning new ways to sing.”
