TWITTER followers got an insight into the busy lives of Crime Scene Investigators in the penultimate day of Wiltshire Police’s Tweet Week.

The popular initiative yesterday saw Head of Forensics Barbara Lockwood update the force’s 4,700 followers on the @wiltshirepolice feed.

Barbara is responsible for overseeing a team of around 60 staff in a host of specialist roles and departments including CSI, photographic, video imaging and mobile phone examination.

In total her team attend an average 6,000 scenes per year recovering valuable evidence to identify offenders from DNA, fingerprints, footwear and fibre or hair transfer.

Speaking about Tweet Week, she said: “I hope people will gain a good insight into the work we do which they may not necessarily be aware of.”

One tweet said: “CSI prepare to attend house fire in Deburgh St, working in company with Wilts Fire Service to determine the cause.”

Later she tweeted: “CSI update from Deburgh St fire. House derelict and unsafe for full CSI exam. Appeal on police website.” Another read: “#WiltsForensics lots to report, suspects identified by fingerprint & with enhanced CCTV work. Forensics recovered from burglary, it’s all go!”

Today will see Detective Sergeant Joe Saunders tweet about a day with Swindon CID.
