RESIDENTS have joined forces with the Friends of Rodbourne Cheney Primary School to take over the grassed area at the back of Moredon and Rodbourne Cheney Library and create a community garden – but they need more help.
The aim is to provide a tranquil outdoor space for library users; to spend time with a book, with friends and with children. It will also be an opportunity for some of the regular library activities, such as the Friday Songs and Stories Group and Community Coffee Morning group to relax and enjoy a natural environment.
The Garden Group received a Grass Roots Grant from Swindon Council that allowed it to get started, but has recently secured additional £2,400 from Groundwork’s UK, a local environmental regeneration charity. Groundwork’s is supporting with advice and money to help pay for equipment.
The garden still needs volunteers to help get the initial work done and for regular donations of plants and general maintenance.
The group is holding a planting day on June 9 from 10am until 1pm. Contact Brad Own on 01793 539537 or brad@chimneys-cattery.co.uk
