WILTSHIRE Council has received almost half of the money back from the Winding-up Board of Landsbanki Islands hf Bank, Iceland.

With the most recent payment of £383,650 and the previous one of around £952,000, the council has received about 40 per cent of the total outstanding amount. Latest indications show the council will eventually receive 100 per cent of its outstanding deposit of £3m.

There is no indication at this stage when the next payment will be received, however, it is likely that the recovery of all the assets and the winding-up proceedings will take a while and may not be concluded for a few more years.

Wiltshire Council leader Jane Scott said: “I am very pleased to report the second payment from Landsbanki has been made to the council and that it brings our total repayments to over £1.3m.

“We will keep a close eye on the winding-up proceedings and will continue to update the public when we have news.”

Swindon Council had no cash in an Icelandic bank so is not affected by the crisis which began in 2008.
