CYCLE theft, graffiti and shed break-ins are just some of the crimes that will targeted by the town’s Community Safety Partnership this week.

The Week of Action, organised by Swindon’s Community Safety Partnership (CSP), is running until Friday.

It aims to take action against crimes such as litter and graffiti, as well as finding out what the community would like to see done in their neighbourhoods.

CSP staff will be in Penhill, Upper Straton, Gorse Hill, Pine-hurst and parts of Mannington, Western and Rodbourne Cheney wards throughout the week.

Richard Palusinski, head of Swindon CSP, said: “While Swindon is normally a very safe place we do know that we have been experiencing some problems in these areas. It is important that people don’t allow complacency to make them a victim of crime.”

The Week of Action will involve a number of agencies, including housing, trading standards, highways, neighbourhood wardens, councillors, the police and firefighters.

An audit to identify priorities in the various areas has been carried out, but residents are encouraged to meet the agencies throughout the week to tell them about any particular problems which may not have been highlighted.

Swindon CSP will be focusing on vehicle crime, cycle theft, shed/garage break-ins and burglary.

They will visit key areas offering practical advice on personal, property and vehicle safety along with free bike marking and registering.

There will also be an opportunity to buy safety items.

The Swindon Safe Bus will be in the Southbrook Inn car park from 10am until 2.30pm today.

From 10am until 12pm today there will be a high visibility patrol at the back of properties in the Ferndale Road area.

And from 3pm until 4pm today, a team of officers will be at Ferndale Primary School doing free bike marking and raising awareness of responsible dog ownership. They will be at Asda Walmart from 10.30am until 3pm on Thursday and in Morris Street car park in Rodbourne from 10.30am until 1pm on Friday.
