AN ACCIDENT-prone dog is causing yet more concern for his owners since he disappeared a week ago.

Gizmo, a five-year-old Yorkshire Terrier cross, went missing from his home in Eastleaze last Monday evening, but it is not the first time he has got himself into a spot of bother.

Back in 2009, Gizmo had to be rescued by his owner Matt Knibbs, who risked his life to save his pet when he skidded into Peatmoor Lake, in West Swindon, after chasing ducks.

Matt immediately called the emergency services but, upon realising Gizmo was in severe trouble, took it upon himself to save him.

He managed to get Gizmo out before fire crews arrived and took him straight to Shaw Veterinary Centre where he was treated for more than two hours.

His temperature did not even register on the thermometer and he was given oxygen therapy and warm intravenous fluids.

He has also recovered from being knocked over by a car.

Fellow owner Ami Knibbs, 29, said she was desperate for his safe return.

“We have had him since he was six months old, so he is a member of our family,” she said.

“It is weird coming home and him not being here at the window, or not barking at the postman when he comes. We really miss him.

“He has never gone missing like this before – he has spent the night at someone else’s home before but never this long.

“He is really, really friendly and would go up to anyone and try to lick their hands. I don’t think anyone would be scared to approach him.”

Gizmo has the markings of a Yorkshire Terrier but he is much bigger.

At the time of his disappearance he was wearing a blue collar, with a blue bone-shaped tag with his name and a contact telephone number.

Ami said: “He is a bit of an escape artist really. Whenever we open the front door, he tries to get out.

“I got home from work and I was in the kitchen when my daughter got in from school, and we think he must have escaped then and just run off.

“We have put signs up everywhere and put notices on Facebook pages but we haven’t heard anything.”

A few sightings were reported in the Eastleaze area last Monday but the family have not heard anything since. Anyone with information should call Ami on 01793 882048.
