ARMY officials delivered a presentation and answered some tough questions at a mosque and Islamic community centre, in Gorse Hill, recently.

The Army Engagement Team, from Sandhurst, visited the Al Habib Islamic Centre, in Chapel Street, in order to talk to a variety of people about the British Army.

The team consisted of Major Magdalen Miller and Staff Sergeant Lee Williams. Major Miller is a bomb disposal expert in the Royal Logistic Corps and SSG Williams is in the Light Dragoons.

Attendants included young Muslims and local residents, ex-Gurkha soldiers, and people from a range of ethnic backgrounds.

The audience were given greater understanding of the British army through a multi-media presentation, before giving them a chance to meet and question the soldiers.

During 40 minutes of presentation, the officials explained why there is an army, what they are doing on the nation’s behalf, how they train and develop soldiers, how the army is structured and what is being done to ensure success.

The presentation included video footage of soldiers in training, on operations and the equipment used by British soldiers, as well as hearing from people throughout the Army community, both soldiers and their families about their experiences of love ones being away.

Major Miller handled some questions presented by some Muslims about the role of British Army in Afghanistan and other conflict areas.
