FLOWERBEDS and hanging baskets have a royal and Olympic theme in Royal Wootton Bassett this summer.
Head groundsman Ralph White said this is the time of year when he can enjoy the fruits of his labour after planning the design of the town’s flowerbeds and selecting just the right plants to bring them to life.
He said: “At this time of year we are very busy as everything grows so quickly. But it is wonderful to see the flowerbeds and baskets exploding with colour.”
The jubilee design is prominent this year and there is a secret to its creation.
“The bedding plants are delivered to us in specially numbered trays,” said Ralph, who has been in the role for 12 years.
“We lay these out in order and it all comes together like a jigsaw puzzle.”
This form of planting is known as carpet bedding and this is the third year it has been used.
