THE public’s views on Swindon’s highways and transport services will soon be compared with others across England.

Their opinions will form part of The National Highways and Transport Public Satisfaction survey.

Swindon Council is one of 75 local authorities to sign up to the standardised survey that will ask the public exactly the same questions, whether they live in Swindon, Sunderland or Southampton.

The survey, which is in its fifth year, is the result of months of hard work by the National Highways And Transport Network and a regional Highways Service Improvement Group.

It enables local authorities to compare results, share in best practice and identify opportunities to work together in the future.

The questionnaire will be sent to a minimum random sample of 4,500 Swindon residents in July, with results expected by the autumn.

Residents who receive a copy are being urged to take part.

The results will enable the council to find out what people in Swindon think about these important services.

This will provide one of several ways the council can assess how it is performing and which services to prioritise, and improve.

Coun Keith Williams, the cabinet member for leisure and strategic transport, said: “This is about understanding customer views better and then working together to deliver the best possible outcomes for residents.”
