A FUNDRAISING event is set to boost an appeal towards Swindon Scrapstore’s bid to buy a new van.

The table top sale, on Saturday, July 28, from noon until 2pm, takes place in Gorse Hill Community Centre.

The group needs to raise £15,000 to purchase a van to replace its existing vehicle, which is unreliable and expensive to maintain.

The Scrapstore charity is a community resource centre and social enterprise that promotes re-use as a means of protecting the environment.

It collects clean, reusable materials from firms, diverting hundreds of tonnes of waste worth thousands of pounds from ending up in Swindon’s landfill sites each year.

All kinds of treasures can be found at the Scrapstore, including household paint, tiles, carpet, paper, picture frames, fabric, foam and art and craft materials.

These are made available to individuals, students, childminders and families, as well as to church groups, schools, playgroups, nurseries, and many more organisations.

On the day there will be face painting, a children’s art and craft workshop, tombola, raffle, home-made produce, nearly new sale, bric-a-brac stall, tea, coffee and cakes.

There are a limited number of tables still available at a cost of £6. To book a table, call Kathleen Bond, Scrapstore volunteer event co-ordinator, on 07733 416604 or 336924.
