BEFORE we look into the hysteria of Tuesday night’s incredible game I want you to come back with me to March 29th 2011.

Town visit Exeter City on a Tuesday night, it’s been 18 games since the club last tasted a league win, it was a must win situation, we went onto lose 1-0.

That all but relegated the club, which I can remember being up there as one of the lowest moments I’ve had supporting Swindon.

Fast-forward 17 months, and the club are celebrating beating Premier League side Stoke City 4-3 at the Britannia Stadium, and not just winning the game, but outplaying them for large parts of the contest.

In the clubs recent history has their ever been a better time to be supporting Swindon Town?

Paolo Di Canio and his team have made Swindon a real force in the football league, something I could only dream about 17 months ago.

A lot of the credit for the clubs turnaround has to go to the board, football fans are quick to abuse and mock boards of directors when things are going badly.

But this time Jeremy Wray, Nick Watkins and everyone involved deserves our thanks, lets hope this amazing period in the clubs history can be sustained for a long time to come.

Tuesday night at the Britannia Stadium was footballing drama at its best, Paolo Di Canio’s side were excellent from start to finish.

One of the biggest high points the night was seeing James Collins scoring a hat trick for the club.

So far he’s been unlucky in front of goal like his strike partner Andy Williams, but hopefully this is the turning point in his career with Town, and the goals will start to flow consistently.

Last Saturday was another great day for the club as we managed to grind out a result with one of the best teams in the league, MK Dons.

Despite them not being at full strength it was always going to be a tough fixture, and to come away with all the points now will turnout to be a key point of the season when we look back next April.

Matt Ritchie was voted man of the match for a second home game in a row, and has been in exceptional form so far this season.

With the transfer window shutting in just two days time, it wouldn’t surprise me to see a few bids come in for his services.

With Paul Caddis looking almost certainly gone, keeping Ritchie becomes more important, but I’m confident he will stay loyal to Town, and be around at least till next summer.

Looking at players coming into the club, Darren Ward and John Bostock both completed loan moves to Town last night.

The pair have joined the club initially till January, with Town not having a lot of expierence at the back a player with Darren Ward's head knowledge will become key as the season goes on.

John Bostock had a successful loan spell at Swindon at the end of last season, and his performance away at Gillingham showed the God given talent he's got at his feet.

With Paolo commenting that we could sign 1-5 new players yesterday before Ward and Bostock completed their moves.

It could be another busy day at the County Ground, with deals being signed right up to the 11pm deadline.

This Sunday Town travels back up north to Deepdale to take on another promotion rival, Preston North End.

Graham Westley has been one of the busiest managers in the football league over the summer, bringing in over a dozen new faces into Deepdale.

A top six finish is the minimum expectations for Westley’s side, so the game will prove to be another big test for Town.

After coming off a massive result and sitting high in the League One table, Town should fancy their chances against a club still struggling to play as a unit after so many new arrivals.

Even with us being the away side I can see us being to strong for Preston’s new look team.
