A NEW initiative to get people on their bikes has steam rolled its way to Swindon.

Following the success of this concept in Bristol and Brighton, Swindon Travel Choices has organised a group cycle to work project or ‘cycle trains’.

Instead of striking out on your own, cyclists are being encouraged to join a group of commuters heading down a main cycle route into the town at a designated time, led by trained ride leaders.

The first train departed yesterday morning and went from North Swindon to Pipers Way.

The same route will be taken today, leaving the Orbital Shopping Centre at 7.45am with the train travelling via Cycle Route 45 through Shaw Forest, through West Swindon, across Wootton Bassett Road, link to the old railway path to Marlborough Road and down Pipers Way, arriving at the Nationwide Building at 8.40am.

At the end of the day, the cycle train will also leave the Nationwide entrance at 5.15pm to head back up to North Swindon.

A second train will start on Monday, September 24, running through to Friday, September 28, between North Swindon and Swindon town centre. The return journey from the town centre will be 5.15pm at the Sheppard Street entrance to the Western Flyer.

If you wish to find out more information about the train or want the train to stop anywhere else along the way, please call Anna Cipullo on 07717 696 672.

Pick-up from your workplace can be arranged by speaking with Anna.
