PREGNANT women in Swindon are being given a helping hand in a bid to stop smoking before giving birth.

Stopping smoking is no easier for pregnant women than for anyone else, but smoking during pregnancy means the baby shares chemicals from smoke that the mother inhales – which can restrict the oxygen essential for baby’s healthy growth and development.

In Swindon, a new ‘Stop Before you Drop’ service has been launched that helps pregnant women in the town who want to stop smoking. Every Thursday, there is a dedicated ‘Stop Before you Drop’ group held at the John Moulton Hall, Penhill Drive, Penhill, from 10.30am to 11.30am. It provides an opportunity for pregnant woman to talk to other pregnant women who are also trying to stop smoking, as well as having a trained stop smoking advisor available to offer support and advice.

Women can either turn up on the day or call 0800 389 2229 (Swindon Freephone number) for more information.
