Swindon’s Oasis Leisure Centre will be turned into a mini Las Vegas tomorrow night when memories of The Rat Pack are evoked in a glitzy show.

The tribute to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jnr includes classic numbers performed in the style of the 1960s smooth sophisticates.

However, the original Rat Pack were not the crooners but a group of actors from the 1950s, led by Humphrey Bogart. It is said that Bogart’s wife, Lauren Bacall, christened the gang with the famous name. When the boys returned home from a night out in Vegas she took one look and said: “You look like a damn rat pack.’’ But it is the 1960s incarnation of the Rat Pack that became the best known, despite the fact that the crooners never called themselves by that name – they were The Clan to one another.

The trio began performing together on stage when one of them was booked to perform and the other two would turn up for an impromptu guest appearance.

All three starred in the original Ocean’s 11 movie.

The Rat Pack tribute in Swindon is happening tomorrow at the Oasis Leisure Centre, North Star, Swindon, at 8pm.

Tickets to see these purveyors of cool are £25 to sit at round tables near the front, and £19 for bleacher seating at the back.
