SWINDON firm Zurich, has been presented with a major award in Parliament. It has received the All Party Corporate Responsibility Group National Responsible Business Champion 2017 award.
The All Party Corporate Responsibility Group promotes debate and understanding of corporate responsibility among Parliamentarians and the business community.
Local MPs nominate outstanding businesses in their area and the firm was nominated by North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson.
He highlighted Zurich Insurance’s work to promote a healthy workplace and to encourage diversity and equality in a nomination which also drew attention to its contribution to Swindon, through its volunteering scheme and generous financial support.
South Swindon MP Robert Buckland was also successful in getting another Swindon firm, Excalibur, long listed.
In selecting companies for the shortlist, Parliamentarians looked for companies that are: Supporting their local community; investing in healthy workplaces; offering apprenticeships and training to all age groups; promoting equality and diversity in the workplace, including offering disabled people work opportunities; and monitoring suppliers’ actions on these issues. The criteria reflect the fact that the group wishes to support the action being taken by Government and responsible businesses to reduce the disability employment gap.
Baroness Greengross, who co-chairs the APCRG said: “MPs are well placed to encourage responsible business practice.”
