BUDDING young businessmen and women have been showing they have got skills that would even impress Lord Alan Sugar.

Teams of students from Commonweal, Kingsdown, St Joseph’s College and New College took to the Designer Outlet to sell goods they have been designing and producing since September for this year’s Young Enterprise Awards.

It is part of a competition for young people across the country, which could see the winners from Wiltshire representing the country internationally.

Andrew Martin, Young Enterprise Wiltshire manager, said: “There was a range of things from jewellery to fashion to technology for sale. The aim is for them to learn about business.

“When they start many of them really don’t know what to do, but when they get in to it and come along and do their finals they are absolutely fantastic. It blows me away.”

The event, on March 24, was the second chance for the groups to sell their products.

The Wiltshire Young Enterprise final is on May 17 and if they are successful they will represent the county at the south west finals, which could lead to the national and international finals.

“We provide the framework for these people to learn about business in a real business-like way. It is not a game, it is a real practical way,” said Andrew.

“I am always looking for people prepared to give an hour of their time to help the young people just to say ‘why don’t you do it this way?’”
