ROTARIAN Terry Williams presented a cheque for more than £8,000 to ShelterBox this week.
The cheque for a total of £8,260, was presented to Pat Prendergast, a volunteer team leader and trainer for ShelterBox, at the Rotary Club’s dinner on Monday at the Blunsdon House Hotel.
The money was raised by Terry when he lived for seven days and nights in one of ShelterBox’s emergency tents in Highworth Market Place last February.
ShelterBox, which was founded by Tom Henderson 12 years ago, provides emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters, at the time when they need it the most. Since it was founded, it has responded to 200 natural disasters in 75 countries and delivered life-saving aid to more than 1m people.
In recognition of Terry’s services to the community, Highworth Town Council has made him their Citizen of the Year and Rotary has given him its top award, a Paul Harris Fellowship.
