STRIKES from Luke Hopper and Corey King ensured Supermarine safe passage into the next round of the Red Insure Cup against Shortwood United.

The visitors started the better of the two teams at the Webb's Wood but failed to create any clear-cut chances as the teams went in at half time goalless.

The home side turned up the pressure in the second half with Tom King keeping them at bay but two goals in two minutes wrapped up the victory.

Marine took the lead when Hopper was found by King and the forward finished well in the bottom corner.

The hosts scored a second moments later when King beat two defenders with his pace before chipping the ball over the out-rushing keeper.

Meanwhile Sam Collier’s Shrivenham side face Binfield tomorrow night in the third round of the Floodlit Cup.

Jack Ellis and Charlie Basoline are both set to start for Shrivvy as they look for a break from the league.

“It is strange because it is the hardest season we have had, with all the games we have lost, yet it it is January and we are still in a cup game," said Collier.

“It’s another opportunity for us to go and try and win a game.

“We only have a small squad so there won’t be many rested.”

Collier is still desperate to find a striker to turn his fortunes around and has even turned to his dad, Chippenham boss Mark Collier.

“I have spoken to Dave Webb and they are in a similar situation and they have more to offer players.

“If people like that are struggling to find out and out goal scorers then I am certainly going to struggle.

“I have been on the phone with my dad to see if there is anything he can give me but he is in the same situation as everybody else; where goal scorers win you games and they are very rare.”
