NEW Shrivenham caretaker manager Michael McNally says that he will tell his squad to go out and enjoy themselves on the pitch.

The Barrington Park outfit lost boss Sam Collier on Monday as he stepped down after just one year at the helm.

With McNally taking charge until the end of the campaign, Shrivenham have eight games to try and preserve their Hellenic League Premier Division status.

The new man, who is beginning his second spell in charge at Barrington Park, admits that avoiding the drop is going to be a tough ask.

“If we are honest and look at the table it is going to be incredibly tough,” he said.

“So my message to the boys is to go out and express themselves – enjoy it and we will see where that takes us at the end of the season.”

McNally admits that returning to the Shrivvy hotseat on a full-time basis is something that interests him.

However, he says that no decision will be made until the end of the current campaign.

“I have spoken to the lads and they are going to stick around,” he said. “We will speak again at the end of the season.

“If the players want to stay and club are happy and what happens with where we are.”

Collier left Shrivvy at the start of the week, saying that he had taken the club as far as he could. While his exit may have surprised a few people, McNally revealed that Collier had confided in him before his exit.

“Sam spoke to me a couple of weeks ago and said that it was starting to get on top of him,” McNally said. “I understood where he was coming from because I’d been in that position before.

“When it doesn’t go your way can affect your personal life, your work life and your time at home.

“I can’t speak highly enough of Sam because he gave the lads and the club everything.”

McNally’s first game back in charge of Shrivvy is a clash with Oxford City Nomads at Barrington Park.

The new manager should have Adam Corcoran available once more, however, Sam Packer is away.
