WHILE FC Abbey Meads will be going for the league and cup double and Inter Sandgate look to put a season where they have not claimed a league win behind them with a trophy, there will be another story playing out during the Chairman’s Cup on Sunday.

Officiating the game will be Robert Bright and his assistant Brian Bennett-Murdoch.

The pair will be re-united after appearing in the same team that, like Abbey Meads this year, won the Swindon Sunday Division Six title back in 1994.

Brian, 46, has said that he is looking forward to joining his former team-mate in the middle on Sunday and will be hoping for a quiet game.

“There a very few ex-players who carry on their involvement in local football,” he said.

“Being an ex-player we have a good rapport with our position as local refs and I still referee quite a few players I actually played with.

“I retired at 42 to go over to the dark side, poacher turned gamekeeper, and I think all local referee's should get a mention for a little bit of praise and credit for a tremendous attitude to all involved.”
