ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town manager Rich Hunter berated his side after they played out a goalless draw with Ascot United in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

Bassett were looking to build on their 2-1 win over Woodley United in the Hellenic League Supplementary Cup.

The last time the two sides met was just a month ago with Bassett coming out as 3-1 winners on that occasion, but with the hosts lacking killer instinct they were unable to find the breakthrough.

“It was very frustrating, that was two points dropped for us really, okay it’s a point but that was a winnable game,” said Hunter “We just weren’t clinical in front of goal, we were poor across the whole pitch, the back four were okay but we just weren’t at it.

“I wouldn’t say lack of games is the issue, it was just one of those days, whether that’s down to a few niggles or illnesses I don’t know.

“It was certainly one of the worst performances I have seen from us this season, we should have got three points there easily.”

After letting the win slip through their fingers, Hunter admits his troops need to kick on in the coming weeks if they are to have a successful season.

“When you look at the fixture list it was certainly one I highlighted as winnable, but that is another game gone,” added Hunter “There are more winnable games, it was a learning curve, but there are some very tough ones, we are running out of time so we need to start picking up points.

“We want to finish as high as we possibly can, it’s just a matter of getting all three points when we have the opportunity.”

Highworth Town came from behind to claim a 3-1 win over second-from-bottom Burnham.

Jeff Roberts’ side fell behind early on as the hosts took a 1-0 lead into the interval, but Chris Taylor was on hand to level the scoring in the second half.

After gaining some confidence, the Worthians then took the lead when Jon Davoile applied the finish from close range.

Highworth were then able to add a third late on as Aysa Corrick sealed all three points with his 31st goal of the season.
