ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town were the sole survivors of a depleted fixture list in the Hellenic Premier Division as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat away to Bracknell Town.

Initially, things were looking good for temporary manager Sam Collier as veteran striker Steve Yeardley handed the visitors the lead from the spot after Joe Gater was guilty of a sloppy handball in the opening exchanges.

Before the first half had finished, Bracknell managed to level through Joe Grant as the hosts broke well.

Gater later redeemed himself for his earlier handball as he headed the hosts into a 2-1 lead, before Bracknell wrapped up the win in the second half with a goal from TJ Bohane, however, it wasn’t all bad according to Collier.

“It was a disappointing result but I was pleased with the way we played,” he said.

“We were always in the game and had some young lads in the side who came up against a strong team.

“They’re a decent team who will push Thatcham and Highworth all the way for the title.

Highworth Town’s home clash with Windsor was postponed, while Fairford Town had a free weekend. In Division One West, Shrivenham Town also had a weekend off as did New College.
