A LOVE of learning is one of the cornerstone qualities which East Wichel Primary School hopes to embed in all of its pupils.

The school, which serves the new community of East Wichel after being opened in 2012, also prides itself on being in the heart of the local community.

In a message on the school’s website, headteacher Caroline Henham said: “At East Wichel Community Primary School, we aim to create an exciting learning environment where we meet the needs of every child, where they enjoy learning and are excited by it. In our rapidly developing school community, we strive to create a happy and caring environment where children feel a sense of worth and belonging. We believe that fostering a desire for learning is our primary role, whilst developing every child’s individual skills and talents.

“We are passionate about the impact we have on the lives of our children and their families. We seek to reinforce the early learning that takes place in the home through partnership with our parents/carers. We are committed to ensuring that the well-being, health and educational achievements of our children go hand in hand.

“We support children to understand the important role that they play both within the school environment, the local community in which they live, and the wider world.”

There are 12 different classes in the school, which are all named after different countries and are represented by different flags.

They also have partnerships with schools in Germany, Italy, Spain and Wales as part of a two-year project, the Comenius Partnership, funded by the British Council which aims to develop a creative curriculum across Europe.

East Wichel has also been recognised as an Eco school after implementing various policies and embedding various values around recycling, bio-diversity and health living and transport.

The school also has a regular after-school club which helps children develop several extra-curricula skills.
