FRIENDS of murdered Becky Godden-Edwards paid their respects to the “bubbly blonde” when they released balloons into the sky above Queen’s Park.

Around 50 people attended the memorial service at 4pm yesterday and released balloons with pictures of Becky, who would have turned 29 last week.

Echoing the lantern tribute set up in memory of Sian O’Callaghan the multi-coloured balloons were released by her friends just as the sun broke through over the park.

A prayer was read out by Leanne Goldsmith, who organised the event, and a remembrance book was passed around for people to leave messages to Becky.

“I wanted to do something for Becky because I think she should be remembered,” said 29-year-old Leanne, of Old Town.

“She was a bubbly blonde who had a lot of friends and I think it is nice that people have come out to pay their respects.

“It is something she deserves and we have all been affected by the news, it was horrible.”

Tracy Church, 28, used to work for Becky’s mum as a hairdresser and said that she was shocked when she heard the second body was identified by police as being Becky’s.

“I was stunned when I heard the news, we were all hoping she would walk back in one day,” said Tracy, of Stratton.

“I knew her from when we grew up and she knew everyone in Rodbourne.

“She was a pretty happy person and she just got lost.

“Her mum never stopped thinking of her and every year she bought her birthday and Christmas presents she kept in the loft.”
