A YOUGOV survey published today shows that millions of people could resist the imposition of government ID cards.

Twelve per cent of those questioned said they would refuse to get an ID card, even if it meant paying a fine or serving a prison sentence. That corresponds to about five million adults across the whole of the UK.

Two thirds of respondents said they didn't trust a government of any party to keep information on an ID card database confidential. Eighty per cent thought there was a danger that people running an ID database would divulge information from it improperly.

As people learn more details of this misguided scheme, so resistance to it hardens. This survey shows the level of public disquiet about government plans for a Database State storing dangerous amounts of information about each of us.
