IN response to N Edwards (SA, March 2), the planned location for university buildings on the proposed Coate development were adjacent to the nature reserve at the back of the country park.
They would begin from just behind the trees near the footbridge. People would have no difficulty whatsoever in seeing buildings through the trees at this point.
While Bath University was quite adamant in its request for the flooded field at the back of the nature reserve, the planning inspector requested that this particular field would not be built upon for ecological reasons.
K Brain's letter suggested increased use of the Oakfield and North Star sites. As Bath Uni are now investing more courses at these sites, we should assume that he was correct in his suggestion.
A footbridge over Dorcan Way to the St Joseph's site would have made an almost ideal extension to the Oakfield Campus and would never stimulate a 30,000-strong petition.
You are, however, correct that most of us have never walked on the land originally designated for Bath Uni. That's because it's an official nature reserve, and the majority of us have respect for nature and its habitat, unlike certain developers.
