STEVE Jack says that Israel "embodies all the values we hold dear in terms of freedom of thought and political expression."

This is not true. Political parties which do not support the Jewish state cannot stand candidates.

Since Israel is deemed to be a state of the Jews, Arab Israelis, who constitute about 20 per cent of the population, are second class citizens, without the same rights as Jews.

Arabs suffer from much higher unemployment, receive less water, lower state funding for eduction and so on.

In a famous case an Arab Israeli nurse fought in the courts for the right to live in a Jewish area.

Despite winning in the highest court in the land he has been denied the right to live there. No wonder people refer to Israeli apartheid.

Recently the Israeli state has passed a law which denies the right of spouses from the West Bank or Gaza to live with their partner in Israel.

This is the reality of Israeli "democracy."
