A MAN suffered a serious head injury following an alleged assault at Chippenham bus station.

The incident occurred at the bus station in Timber Street on Thursday, December 27 between 11.20pm and 11.40pm and left a 33-year-old man needing hospital treatment.

Two 16-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated assault, and have since been released on police bail.

The injured man from Bath was taken to the Royal United Hospital where he received stitches to a head wound.

Police believe the alleged attack happened after an incident between two mopeds and a First bus on route 231 travelling from Corsham to Chippenham.

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw anything which could help their investigation.

Officers are also keen to speak to two passengers on the First bus, a man and a woman, who got off at the Pheasant Public House bus stop in Chippenham at approximately 11.30pm on the night.

PC Sue Martin said: "We would very much like to trace these two passengers as they may have vital information which could help us with this case. I would like to emphasise that they are not in any trouble, we would just like to speak to them as potential witnesses."

Anyone with any information that could help with this inquiry is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 0845 408 7000 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
