SWINDON-born Billie Piper has signed a six-figure deal to write her autobiography, it has been announced.

The 23-year-old Doctor Who star is promising to talk openly about her life.

She will tell all about her marriage to Chris Evans and her journey from teen pop singer to award-winning actress.

"It may sound ridiculous being just 23 but I've a few good stories I'd like to share,'' Billie said.

"I'm hoping the book will be honest, funny, insightful and, above all, life-affirming.

"This is a chance for me to talk openly about other areas of my life. Things that people won't know. Things that I'm hoping lots of people can relate to and maybe even be inspired by.'' The book promises an "astonishingly candid insight'' into her life.

It will be published this autumn by Hodder & Stoughton.

Hodder editorial director Nick Davies said: "Billie has done more in her 23 years than most of us will do in a lifetime and she is ready to talk about it with honesty and humour. I have no doubt that we have a bestseller on our hands.'' The former Bradon Forest pupil was discovered aged 15 in a Smash Hits TV advert and signed up by record bosses.

Her debut single Because We Want To topped the chart in 1998. She had three number ones and seven top five singles.

In 2000 she appeared on Chris Evans' show TFI Friday and romance blossomed in spite of the 16 year age gap.

They married in Las Vegas in 2001 when Billie was 18 but split three years later. Billie reinvented herself as an actress and after an acclaimed performance in a BBC adaptation of The Canterbury Tales she landed the role of Doctor Who's sidekick Rose Tyler.

Last year she was named most popular actress at the National Television Awards.

But it's not just her acting skills that have caught people's eye. She was voted number 11 in the world's 100 sexiest women by the readers of lads mag FHM.

As previously reported, the number one spot was filled by British actress Keira Knightley, with Billie shooting 51 places up the list from last year's number 62 position.

Later this month she begins filming her first lead role as Victorian sleuth Sally Lockhart in BBC drama The Ruby in the Smoke.

  • Last month we reported how biographer Sean Smith, who has previously written about Britney Spears, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue and Justin Timberlake, was going to delve into the life of Billie.

He said that his will not be a controversial book uncovering shocks and scandal, but more about what makes the nation's sweetheart tick.

His book will start in Swindon before turning the spotlight on London.
