HEAD nurse at Vet's Klinic, Rebecca Murley, offers advice on how to watch your pet's weight.
"It's estimated that over 50% of cats and dogs are overweight, with rabbits becoming a growing concern," she said.
"As vets and nurses we want to work with owners to achieve an ideal weight for domestic pets. You should always be able to feel an animal's ribs with ease but not necessarily see them.
"Cutting out treats and human food can make a significant difference and increasing exercise and playtime is an important part of any weight loss plan.
"An initial weight loss consultation with a nurse to discuss food type and eating habits as well as exercise along with regular weight checks will be hugely beneficial. We offer these for free at Vet's Klinic."
