Nell: Home form is inexcusable

AARON Nell has called for a vast improvement at home after labelling Swindon’s recent run of results ‘inexcusable’.

Wildcats have taken victory in just one of their last six games at the Link Centre, a statistic that has played a significant role in their unstable position on the edge of the play-off spots.

And the 23-year-old captain recognises that Swindon must come out of their Saturday games with two points on a more regular basis if their season is to pick up momentum.

“The home form is inexcusable and every player in our team has to be better,” said Nell.

“In our league now we’re not going to get any easy games at home. No team is just going to roll over and let us beat them 6-1, 7-1, 8-1 like we used to.

“It’s not going to happen because the league’s better now, so we have to understand that we’re going to be in a hard game every night.

“We’ve always been a team that’s been good at home and in the past other teams have always been scared of coming to Swindon. We’re actually playing better away and that’s very unusual.

“In the first period we are giving it to teams at home, that’s what we do, but we need to keep doing that for the whole game like we did against Guildford a month ago (when Wildcats emerged 6-2 winners).

“That’s the team that Ryan (Aldridge, head coach) signed and that’s what we have to be like every night.”

Wildcats’ next EPL outing sees them take on second-placed Manchester at the Link Centre on Saturday (5.45pm).

Aldridge’s men have just one game per weekend for the next three weeks, all at home - albeit with a Tuesday night trip to Sheffield in between - and forward Nell says they have no excuse for not putting on a show for the fans.

“We’ve got a schedule now where we have just one game at the weekends, so we should be able to put all our efforts into those games,” said the ex-Coventry man.

“We need to be better at home because at the end of the day the fans need to be entertained and they want to go home happy celebrating a win, whether it’s 8-1 or 1-0.”

We might win more home games if Aaron fired more shots on the goal instead of high and wide! With the service he gets from Jonas Hoog he should be scoring more.
