NEW Robins signing Edward Kennett is hoping his committed performances will win over the fans who doubt him when the new season gets underway.

The Brit became the fifth member of the Robins side for 2013 after putting pen to paper on a deal with the Blunsdon club earlier this week, linking up once again with former boss Alun Rossiter after the pair won the Elite League title together at Coventry in 2010.

His arrival has split the Robins faithful with many questioning the move for the Hastings-born rider following his six-month ban in 2011, which he picked up for using an illegal silencer during the Bees’ win over Lakeside in August that year.

Kennett admitted he may have something to prove to certain sections of the Robins supporters, but is hoping to win them over when the new season gets underway.

“I will go out there and give 110 per cent in every heat I am in, and I am one of those riders who will give everything,” he said.

“If I get the chance to settle in and get myself going then I am sure I will do well.

“I will do my best when I am out there and if I do that I hope the majority of the fans will support me, and even if you don’t score a point they can see you are trying.

“The fans have always been good for me which is a nice bonus, and I can’t wait to get going and hopefully they will take to me.”

While joining the reigning Elite League Champions was always likely to be an attractive prospect, Kennett jumped at the opportunity to work with Rossiter again, who he credits with guiding him through some difficult times.

“I’m happy to be coming to Swindon because it will be a new challenge for me, and I’m happy to be able to work with Rosco again,” he said.

“We have a good relationship as friends and as a manager and rider, and he has helped me out a lot in the past at Coventry and things like that, and he got me going.

“I am really looking forward to the season coming around again and I am keen to get things going.

“Rosco is a man who can read me and know exactly what I need, and he knows if my head has dropped a bit and will soon get behind me and get me going again.

“He always has a smile on his face and gets beyond the boys, and he is a great team manager to work for.

“Swindon have a great team atmosphere and good support from the fans, and the track is one I enjoying riding because I have had some good meetings there and have guested a few times for them in the past.

“It is another bonus to have a good track to race on, and it is prepared really well which is a bonus to all the riders.”

Kennett believes the Robins are shaping up to have a good team on paper ahead of their title defence, but insisted the club need to transfer the potential to the track to avoid suffering a similar season to the one his former club Coventry endured in 2012.

“Our team was really strong on paper at Coventry, and a top four of me, Chris (Harris), Scott (Nicholls) and Kenni (Larsen) was pretty good but we just never all fired at once,” he said.

“One would be up one week while another was down, but then be down the next week, and we never really got going which was a real shame.

“I started the season really well and then lost a bit of confidence half-way through, and I kept trying things but kept going backwards.

“Hopefully I can put all that behind me, and the new challenge at Swindon will be good for me.

“I know most of the guys well and have ridden with Nick Morris and Peter Kildemand before, and they are a good bunch of young-ish lads so we should have a good team spirit in the pits.

“I hope the club can get Hans and Troy back as well, and Hans is a good captain while Batch is a good lad, so we have a good team on paper but we need to deliver the goods.”
