JAZZ Carlin has qualified for tonight’s 200m freestyle final at the World Short Course Swimming Championships after receiving a reprieve.

The Swindon flyer had initially looked set to miss out in the showdown in Istanbul after finishing ninth-fastest in heats.

However, the fastest qualifier, Hungary's Katinka Hosszu, is not included in the start list for the final and appears to have pulled out, handing the former Swindon Tigershark a lifeline.

Carlin, who will take lane eight in the final, had initially missed out on a spot by two-hundredths of a second from China’s Lili Zhou.

The former Wootton Bassett School pupil was competing in a three-swimmer heat and recorded a time of 4:05.13.

She tweeted: "I'm such an idiot.. Lost count this morning racing my 400m! But I am soo lucky to be in that final tonight... Can't wait to get stuck in!"

Meanwhile, world silver medallist Hannah Miley recorded a personal best in the 100m breaststroke.

But it was not enough for a place in the final for the Swindon-born medley specialist, who was 29th-fastest overall in Istanbul.

The 23-year-old’s time of 1:08.68 saw her finish second in her heat.
