SWINDON TOWN: Risser move frees up cash

Swindon Advertiser: Swindon Town's Oliver Risser Swindon Town's Oliver Risser

SENDING Oliver Risser to Aldershot until the end of the season could free up the money needed to secure short-term extensions to Chris Martin and Danny Hollands’ loan spells at Swindon Town.

Risser is expected to join the League Two Shots this week after returning from Stevenage, where he spent the first half of the campaign. And while the Hampshire side will not be paying a huge chunk of his wages, Town boss Paolo Di Canio has hinted that the move might save Swindon enough to keep Martin and Hollands at the County Ground until the end of the month.

Meanwhile, Di Canio is working on a move for Lee Cox out of Wiltshire for the remainder of the term. Oxford were unable to secure a second loan stint for the midfielder at the Kassam Stadium, with Town wanting the U’s to pay a greater proportion of his salary.

“Oliver Risser is close to going to Aldershot. It’s until the end of the season and then he finishes his contract with us,” said the Italian.

“The situation that we send him there all season will save us more than if we sent him on loan and be a part of the payment, but it’s not enough to keep even one player for the rest of the season.

“But it is to extend for 28 days the loan for Danny, Chris Martin and in the next two weeks trying to find the money to extend until the end of the season.

“It’s a similar situation for Lee Cox but you know he has got a longer contract. We want to give him to a team that pays his wages - a loan until the end of the season but who pays his wages, for all his wages.”

Finally, after turning down Bradford last week, Paul Benson has been offered the chance to move to another League Two club, according to Di Canio.

The Adver understands Port Vale are keen on the striker, but Di Canio hinted that the interested side in question could be even closer to home. There was no further update, however, on the status of Luke Rooney.

“Paul Benson has got a good request, even close to Swindon, which he can go through and accept because it’s a team that is in League Two but can win the league. It’s the 16th of January for Benson, so we will see,” he said.

“Luke Rooney we know the situation. In terms of people coming back we are not worried because there are a lot of requests so we should go through in the next two or three days and give them the opportunity to play for another team.”

Exeters not close to home and after they screwed us on archie doubt we would be od the mind set to do then any favours.

It must be cheltenham because they are challenging for promotion.

I think that was the tribunal's fault not Exeter's.

PDC states it's 'close to Swindon' so that is either Cheltenham or Exeter (It's not that far when you think how many miles some footballers travel every day. Both are in with a shout of promotion still. Either way, I hope it's a good enough deal for him to accept. It has to be better for him to be playing, and it will definitely free up some cash for us. Win, win

Doubt it if the "promotion" word is anything to go by - Rovers look snookered at the minute.

Cox came in on a 2 1/2 year deal - like Rooney
.
So both have 18 months to go
.
Transfers are always a gamble and no manager ever gets them all right
.
At least he never cost us anywhere near the amounts Guadiola's f**k up with Zlatan did to Barca, or Fergie's Bebe purchase or Wenger's Japanese import which no one knows the name off he was that poor!
