SWINDON TOWN: Bids dry up as Paolo's warning works

Swindon Advertiser: MESSAGE: Paolo Di Canio MESSAGE: Paolo Di Canio

SLAPPING a ‘not for sale’ sign across his Swindon Town squad appears to have worked for Paolo Di Canio, who has not received an offer for any of his players since.

The Robins boss made the statement last week, in the light of a rejected bid from Bradford for Aden Flint, as he let the rest of the Football League know he is not in the mood to allow anyone he deems to be an integral part of the first-team set-up leave the County Ground.

The message appears to have got through as he told the Advertiser, following Town’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday, that he has not had to deal with any further approaches in light of his remarks.

“It’s clear that after what I said in the last few days the message went around everywhere,” he said.

“Nobody can come close and ask me for some players because I want to desperately keep those two, you can imagine me selling one.

“I can repeat that if someone comes with crazy money I have to sacrifice someone, otherwise no chance because I want to keep hold of them.”

Meanwhile, Di Canio said he hopes that progress can be made in extending the loan spells of Danny Hollands and Chris Martin until the end of the season early this week.

The two players are currently contracted with the Robins until February 2, but Di Canio wants them to stay right through until May.

“I really think, I am really positive in the fact that something can happen in the next few days,” he said.

“I don’t think about stretching my squad and bringing other players, but keeping those two that are in here from other teams – we have to do everything, even if it’s not sure we can have a chance to go up or stay in the top six.

“You can see how Danny Hollands and Chris Martin played, how the others played next to them. Now there is a group, a team, a quality and we have to keep going.

“Jay McEveley we expect back in seven or eight days but in 20 days’ time we have to make sure that those two players extend their contracts until the end of the season.

“It’s clear that I don’t expect help from the board but at the moment we are working in a way that we can extend their loans and I will do everything, as I said before, I can help and support this.

“It would be a shame, it’s not an attack on anyone, to lose those players because we’re not talking about £1million or hundreds of thousands. I will do everything.”

I'm sure he'll get his men on extended loans and then we can all settle back into our 1st Class Carriage seats on the PDC Express to the promised land via celebrations at Scunthorpe!! :-)

Thats very true. But I said it last season that when we hit the top we wouldn't get knocked off it. And guess what.....

I feel its the going to be the same this season. So, just for you, and so as not to get carried away. IF.... IF, and only IF... If we get to the top of the league, I don't think we will be easily knocked off.

One does have to be realistic though, but one can always dream; just to put another perspextive on things.

- Yep. Even if it's a fiver's worth of damage, Duardo should have spoken to a steward at the end and told him he would pay. Considering how well our fans have got on with Bournemouth's, as well as Pompey's, it leaves a bit of a sour taste that such a minor thing should cause arguments.

Spot on. It may be only minor damage but we should apologise and we should pay. I think we would demand that of anyone from the opposition who broke something of ours. Anyway, it would be interesting to know how you can accidentally break that stuff!

Maybe he, or the club, have paid up (and they should if they haven't) but why do some people think it's the host club who should pay just because they can afford it? Very strange attitude.

Bloody Bournemouth should be concerned about building a stand behind the goal at the car park end of the park. A dugout causes more fuss than completing the stadium. Small minds, small club. And how many minutes did Bournemouth waste throughout the game on Saturday, every free kick the ball was moved away rather than get on with the match. Poor ref let them get away it. COYR

Rebel well said that man. Saturday 13th April has been inked in the calendar since the fixture list came out. Yes there's loads of work to do but there was more to do then. Yes we haven't even got into the top two but I feel even more confident now than I did pre season. Brilliant stuff and great to dream of doing in front of Mr Foldy Arms.

As I'm clearly a dreamer let's pre suppose we get promoted. How many of our current squad do we think could hold there own in the Championship.

I'm going for:

Wes
L Thompson
Ward
Devera
Macca (bench)
Flint (bench)
Troy (bench although I have high hopes)!
Ritchie
Ferry
Hollands
De Vita or Roberts (either on bench)
Williams
Martin
Collins (any two from three)
Storey (for future)
Bedwell (for future)

I reckon we'd require a left back, two centre midfielders and a striker to have a squad capable of jumping again for Back to back to back promotions and that statue....

May not be to much money needed....

I have a dream today.... (As someone once said)!

That fuucking idiot Mitchell should have looked more after that poor ball boy by us on the corner flag poor lad was frozen, soaked and was talking to himself he was given no wet weather gear, Mitchell like your fans said when that priick groves was in charge you don't care about fans 1-0 up nice and warm, but you and that twaat Howe come back down to earth when willo slotted that cracker in, then the old story it should have been stopped.
As i thought the best two teams in the division stood up to the test, but now I hope you don't even get in the playoffs.
Onwards and upwards

"In A Tight Spot!"
Well done lads for the great draw amid woeful conditions. Lets hope Di Canio's words are true and we don't get any more silly bids during the Jan Transfer Window. Plus I hope that the wally at Burnley gets bought by a bigger club (possibly Stoke or Wigan) so that we can cash in on the greedy b*****r.
I had to be very diplomatic at the weekend as my girlfriend is a closet Bournemouth fan. (she told me there would be no copulation is Swindon won). Must be the first time i've ever been happy with a draw.

If Caddis is on a season-long loan, and is then out-of-contract, and the only club we can therefore try and sell him to is Birmingham who have no money, then this must be one of the dumbest bits of business we've done in recent times.

Or does he have another year left on his contract?

I know Mad not the best bit of business, but I think we had higher hopes with Rooney and I am not 100% but (I thought Caddis signed for two years, this year and next.
