Betteridge delighted to get off the mark
IT MIGHT not have been the result he wanted, but new Wildcats signing Ollie Betteridge was delighted to grab his first goal for the club on Sunday.
The 17-year-old forward scored Swindon’s fourth in the 5-4 EPL defeat to Slough at the Link Centre.
And although the goal might have come in slightly fortunate circumstances, Betteridge was just happy to see the puck go in.
He said: “It felt great and I wasn’t expecting it. It was the luckiest goal, a nice little one-hander.
“That was my first one-handed goal. I’ve scored a couple in training but never in a game.
“It was a lovely feeling when it went in and I enjoyed the game, it was a good experience.”
He added: “We went up two goals in the first and we needed to keep it up.
“We battled hard but just let a couple of silly breaks go through the D and had a couple of unlucky bounces, but overall it was a solid game.”
Nottingham-based Betteridge and teammate Sam Bullas stay over in Swindon at weekends in a house that includes netminder Tom Murdy and D-man Paul Swindlehurst.
And the Wildcats’ newest recruit says he has settled in well at his second home in Wiltshire.
He said: “All the team have welcomed me in.
“I’ve been at Murdy and Swinners’ house and they have welcomed me a lot.
“They have been a great help to me and it feels like home.
“It’s nice to feel welcomed when you come to a club and only know a couple of players.”
