SWINDON TOWN: Di Canio overwhelmed by fans' 'special reception'
6:00am Monday 11th February 2013 in Sport By Sam Morshead
TRIBUTE: Town fans back Paolo Di Canio during the Hartlepool game
PAOLO Di Canio thanked the Swindon Town fans for their very personal show of support towards him during the Robins’ 1-1 draw with Hartlepool on Saturday, but the County Ground boss once again refused to comment further on his future after the match.
Supporters stood up to chant Di Canio’s name in unison for 60 seconds from the 10-minute mark and held aloft posters and banners urging the Italian to stick it out with Town, as he continues to consider his position at the club.
The Swindon manager noted the crowd’s message in his post-match press conference but could not offer fans any assurances that he will commit to remaining with the Robins just yet.
“It was special reception but obviously it is important for the squad and the club, not Paolo Di Canio. I want to thank them. Even if they didn’t come in here with the intention to sing my name, for me it is not important because I know they appreciate the job I have done,” he said.
“I always work for the cause, I am fully professional and until the (last) day I am here I will give my best. I will go angry like I am today because that result hurt me, but I am never going to forget them and everything that happened in five years’ time, two months’ time, one day’s time.
“I started in management here; that is something amazing. I achieved something important with them. I gave them satisfaction, they gave us big satisfaction. That is a special relationship.
“I want to say only that I don’t want to talk about my future. I stand by the statement that I sent out the day before the Crawley game. My position didn’t change yet. I stand by the statement. It is exactly the same situation as the day before the Crawley game.”
Di Canio is believed to have held positive talks with members of the consortium set to buy into the club when a takeover is ratified by the Football League.
Frontman Jed McCrory was at the Hartlepool game alongside another member of the five-strong group, Martin King, who has previous involvement with Luton Town. McCrory spent time in the Legends Lounge talking to fans pre-match.
The Advertiser understands the sale of the club may not go through until Wednesday or Thursday of this week, with McCrory and his partners set to meet the League in Preston to discuss the fine details of their financial model for the Robins going forward.
Each of the incoming directors is understood to have passed their respective fit and proper persons tests, while McCrory is believed to be awaiting special dispensation from the relevant authorities to hold positions at both Swindon and Banbury United until the end of the campaign.

Louis, if you read the column again, the only hold up i can see is wether he will get the dispensation to stay with both clubs. I think we have to be positive about the new owners, if PDC has spoken to them last week and he is still here, perhaps he trusts them as well, we can only wait with bated breath , lol

A small group of people with Jed in a special room on Saturday gave us all 'real' cause for concern as to who they are - pub landlord's day out - was how one person summed it up..... - a really embarrassing chimps tea party - was another.
...
Fit and proper person's test does NOT include a test of wealth, only that they haven't been banned from being a director, chairman or other such board member.
...
We're hoping that there is a surprise in store but it is the future of STFC and not of PDC that gave us real cause for concern Saturday....hope we're laughing over this as a stupid panic post over a beer in the near future matey!
...
Hope you're well and maybe catch up sometime soon!?

We are told via the Adver all looks positive, all I will say is let us wait until the FL tell us the outcome.
As for Pdc it is time for him to stand up and e counted he either stays or goes????????????????
???
Get thhe feeling he is milking this for all it is worth. Yes we are in a great spot but with no games for 10 days we will be back to games in hand and for the TOWN aint good.
So we wait until Wed or Thursday for ratification and like Pdc the Fl will say YES or NO
So Patience is the key word no more silly rumours etc PLEASE

I have been reading/posting on here for around 12 months, and have come to the conclusion that if SAP, Den, Jock, Smirg and Joey B were to post under completely new identities, very few people would find their posts worthy of comment.
For the most part they quote/re-quote, copy or even copy and paste each other so often that it is near impossible to find anything original written.
There are only 2 "regular" posters that are worth reading...LR and Wiz because what they have to say is based on fact with opinion.
I should mention that there are many other posters that visit this site that offer very good opinions and have interesting arguments/discussion

What we want is why you are worried
.
For example you could say Robert Maxwell is part of the consortium and due to his record at the Mirror and what he tried to do to Pox/Reading I'm worried about STFC
.
Or Jed and co are raising money Glazier stylie so I'm concerned we will be cripped with interest payments for years to come which would wipe out any potential profit we could dream of in the Championship
.
Thats what we want to hear the actual news part - not where it came from
.
N o onereally cares about who said it - If you post I was told this by someone I trust and it comes true - i.e. we are signing X on Fri - then if it happens people will believe you in the future - if it doesn't people wont - and your source is uneffected either way!

Once the takeover goes through and the new board give a clear indication of how they plan to take the club forward, that will be the right time for Di Canio to decide where his future lies.
Think about it - if your employer was going through a similar takeover process and you didn't know what the prospective owners' plans are, let alone what your terms of employment will be, would you make a commitment to that company? Of course not - you would consider your position and make your decision when the situation becomes clearer. There's too much uncertainty at the moment, so all we can hope is that it's wrapped up in the next couple of days.

The man is so intense and puts in so many hours to the cause that it could be having a physical effect on him. The uncertainty over the takeover would not help either. Paolo is not superman, he's just flesh and bone like the rest of us. Unfortunately, I dont think he knows any other way other than work work work.

Making it to the end of the season and getting promotion is my goal, keeping Paolo is the icing and cherry on the cake.
What happens pre next season is for us to be concerned about then, meanwhile lets bask in the fact we are (will be ) saved and we are in a great league position with the best manager outside the premiership.
I only deal in facts and figures, I totally disregard rumours and stuff posted here without substance.
Was brilliant to see everyone standing and chanting Paolo's name on the ten minute mark in each half, well done everyone.

NO, jobs dont depend on whether you spill the beans on who you claim to have seen in the "MEMBERS LOUNGE"
If it was all secretive and cloak and dagger style they wouldnt be in the lounge, normally i like you and your posts but the the longer this whole debracle drags on and the more fans we have in the know but not preparred to share the love is begining to wear a little thin.
I feel we have a team that is supported purely by free masons as what they hear and say is all hidden from the real world and stays in the lodge.
In a nut shell who did you see in the "lounge" and if it was pure speculation by a third party and your not prepared to keep the rest of us in the loop please dont brag that you know the tea lady, who is waxing the boot boy, whos brother is the managers office cleaner, and is best mates with nick watkins sons football coach younger brother, whom he sits along side at cookery class during school.
Sorry if i offended you but were all pi55ed offf with this situation now and some posters dont help other peoples nervous disposition with claims of "I KNOW THIS AND THAT COS SPECULATION MEANS YOU KNOW F$&£ ALL"
However if because you are privvy to the members lounge and think it gives you more right to post on our club forum then think again.

Its taken 18 months, a Wembley final, league champions and currently third in the table to decide this while he is considering if his future lies elsewhere. He owes us nothing we owe him nothing and if he did ever go on this site would he be in 2 minds as to stay with what some post about him and after the way the board have acted.

That said, we know how sometimes our manager is careful in the way the chooses his words, and there in the interview above are the keys to how he feels right now,
Quote 1,
for me it is not important because I know they appreciate the job I have done,”
The use of the phrase, the job I HAVE done, not the job I am DOING, uses past tense.
Quote 2,
“I started in management here; that is something amazing. I achieved something important with them. I gave them satisfaction, they gave us big satisfaction.
I achieved something, not I am achieving something
I gave them satisfaction, not I am giving them satisfaction
I stand by the statement. It is exactly the same situation as the day before the Crawley game.”
And that says, the job is still in his eyes untenable.
He has spoken in this tense for a couple of weeks or so and his words are carefully chosen. I have taken hours last week going back over his quotes in weeks and months gone by and his spoken English is all quite clear cut on past/present/future. I also picked up that the whole squad have days off now, something which has hitherto been a bit rare, but explainable as we have a long break, and we have just had three games in a short period.
I WANT HIM TO STAY, but I do think listening and watching him he is at best uneasy with this situation. I don't think he is a quitter, but he is also nobodies fool. As long as this deal goes through, and as long as there is money on the table to allow him some freedom in the market, I think he will stay and do his best to see the job through. For him, second best is not good enough, and its been a very long wait for this club to get someone with that mindset. It would seem 20 goal a season strikers are more easily found than people with his virtues and qualities. The wait hopefully is worthwhile as we have seen plenty of ankers in years gone by. Many rumours and much hear say about Jed, but he is only the front man like Wray, and may be put aside just as easily after a transitional period, who knows. Time to exercise patience, by now we should all be experts at just that.

For the most part they quote/re-quote, copy or even copy and paste each other so often that it is near impossible to find anything original written.

If he doesn't want to commit and isn't happy, then go and let somebody else have a crack. We have a decent squad and any half decent manager could get results with them. I can assure you there wouldn't be a shortage of applications for the job.
He has just had his best player sold without his knowledge. He cannot (and I wouldn't) work like this. He is correct to make his stance for the benefit of the team, otherwise there is nothing stopping them doing the same again.
This is Paolo's best opportunity to make this stand and test the board, to see if they will back him and allow him to recruit the loan players he wants

Everyone is wondering 'how did it go?', and then he comes out after the game on Saturday and says the situation is just as untenable as before, speaks in the past tense and waves at the fans. It doesn't look good.
Two themes have emerged that I disagree with; firstly the angst over the incoming owners, and secondly the assertion that Paolo should 'make his mind up'. * As regards the new owners, well none of us know so why are so many determined to wallow in misery? Just because the FL ratification is dragging on doesn't mean nothing is going on at the club in the meantime.
I don't see why Paolo couldn't say that he has met with the new owners and is happy with what he has heard and will stay if it all goes through. The fact he is evading any attempt to discuss it sends out a bad signal.
Because of what people are seeing and hearing from the manager, it is leading to negative conjecture (and some wallowing in misery) If it is simply mind games between Paolo and the board, then the fans are caught in the middle and I don't think that is fair.

However much I admire PDC's work (most of it anyway) and want him to stay, I didn't want to join in on Saturday because I thought it was unnecessary as he already knows how well liked he is. That side of things has been in the bag since the day he walked through the door. I believe there is only one thing that will determine whether he stays or goes - the level of resources made available to him from now on. Whichever way he chooses, it seems likely that he won't have the relative riches he's had at his disposal so far in his short managerial career. Testing times ahead for him and the club I think.

Like you, I was impressed by the show of affection on Saturday. It just wasn't for me. Cue "grumpy old man" allegations, which I suppose I just have to take on the chin. I do support the manager but I support the club first - and the club is STFC, not PDCFC.

As someone who regularly likes to take other posters comments to task, you should have no problem with someone asking likewise about you, should you?
.
As for the manager, he stated quite clearly in his post match interview, what his current stance is, and like others have mentioned, nothing will change until everything else becomes clear. That does not mean that the fans should not show him just how much they want him to stay though.

Paolo wanted Clarke, Kerrouche and Magera plus others who he subsequently discarded for various reasons all of whom cost us, a firmer chairman would have told him to play them not replace them at even more cost. Don't get me wrong I'm a PDC fan but he does have shortcomings that have cost this club a lot of money.
d you finally come across Tom happy posting.

Promotion now must be the aim,
Again this will just enhance your fame!

We don't want you going anywhere,
Stay with us enjoy the ride
That's what we want, both joy and pride!
Not long to go, till season end
Stay with us and be our friend,
Another promotion is on again
Now is the time to fight, and not to wane.
Paolo Paolo we love you,
Stick with us and don't be blue

He cannot possibly let us fans know what he and the new owners spoke about as the deal is still waiting to go through. I couldn't manage the away games but really noticed the how the balance of the team is affected by Ritchie going. I really don't want to lose him but have a horrible feeling we will. If we want championship football then a lot of money has to be put forward. Also, people seem to blame Paolo for wasting money - he doesn't sign the cheques, so really cannot be totally blamed.
Highworth red wrote:I think you are missing Paolo's point.
It feels like we are a ship on the ocean in a storm with no engines. As for Paolo, I have always been a supporter, but I've had enough now.

Calling The Jockster, and everyone else.
ENJOY,
I DIDN'T BELIEVE THESE LAWS AT FIRST, BUT HAVE FOUND
THEM TO BE TRUE FROM ACTUAL EXPERIENCE.
1.Law of Mechanical Repair - After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch and you'll have to pee.
2.Law of Gravity - Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.
3. Law of Probability- The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.
4.Law of Random Numbers - If you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal and someone always answers.
5.Supermarket Law - As soon as you get in the smallest line, the cashier will have to call for help.
6.Variation Law -If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will always move faster than the one you are in now.
7.Law of the Bath - When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings.
8. Law of Close Encounters - The probability of meeting someone you know increases dramatically when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.
9. Law of the Result - When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will.
10. Law of Biomechanics - The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.
11.. Law of the Theater & Hockey Arena - At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle, always arrive last. They are the ones who will leave their seats several times to go for food, beer, or the toilet and who leave early before the end of the performance or the game is over. The folks in the aisle seats come early, never move once, have long gangly legs or big bellies and stay to the bitter end of the performance. The aisle people also are very surly folk.
12. The Coffee Law - As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold.
13. Murphy's Law of Lockers - If there are only 2 people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers.
14. Law of Physical Surfaces - The chances of an open-faced jam sandwich landing face down on a floor, are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet or rug.
15.Law of Logical Argument-Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.
16. Brown's Law of Physical Appearance - If the clothes fit, they're ugly.
17.Oliver's Law of Public Speaking- A closed mouth gathers no feet.
18.Wilson's Law of Commercial Marketing Strategy -As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it.
19. Doctors' Law- If you don't feel well, make an appointment to go to the doctor, by the time you get there you'll feel better... But don't make an appointment, and you'll stay sick. This has been proven over and over with taking children to the pediatrician.
If you don't believe this, your belly button will unscrew and your bum will fall off.
15.Law of Logical Argument-Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.

Ex-West Ham striker Tony Cottee has slammed the club for failing to sort out Sam Allardyce’s future at the club.
The Hammers boss’ contract is due to finish at the end of the current campaign, but co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan are yet to offer him a new deal, claiming they will only enter talks once their Premier League safety is secured.
But Cottee believes that this will only have a negative effect on the Upton Park outfit's fortunes.
He told Hawksbee and Jacobs: “I don’t think it achieves anything at the moment. Sam came into the club at a time when they needed stability.
“They needed to get out of the Championship after the debacle of Avram Grant and his job was to get them promoted. He did that and did it very well.
“They’ve been very stable in the Premier League up until the last month or so, and I think Sam has done a good job.
“I don’t go along with, ‘we’re waiting to see what happens’, because the club needs stability and you need a manager to take the club forward.
“It doesn’t help the manager and Neil McDonald, the assistant manager. They haven’t been given contracts. They’ve not even had talks and that doesn’t help the management and I think that can filter down to the players as well.
“If you’re trying to get a player to sign a new contract, a player will say, ‘hold on, I don’t know if the manager is going to be here’.”

I was NOT nor am I claiming that the content of the original posts was poor, in fact many are very well written some of which I agree with and some I don't.
I am however, tired of the one-upmanship that is frequently displayed (who has seen who first in the lounge or who has said what to who-but I can't tell you are prime examples).
It is abundantly clear that there are a great many posters on here who make good arguments backed up with valid points and/or facts and figures etc, but get few if any comments on their posting no matter how well constructed.
Yet the "Clique" few take over the forum with their constant NEED to be heard or seen by quoting and re-quoting then bu99er me if they don't re-quote the re-quote just to say "DITTO" FFS.
Which brings me back to my original point that if those on whos head the cap fits were to assume a new identity it would take considerably less time for us mere mortals to scroll down and read some interesting points from other contributors.
Further, it is quite clear to me that Jockster has realized the error of his ways by virtue of his 3.36pm post. (Please don't try to deny it....what can't speak can't lie).
Yet Steve.Brentford completely missed the point.

If I judged you incorrectly then I apologise.
The reason I have posted in this manner is because I knew there would be one or two that would take it personally and start throwing out abuse.
Then once that starts the message I was trying to get across gets lost.
It happens all too often, so by posting in this manner I am able to say what I think (politely), without falling out with people.

He was mentioned by a West Ham fan on 606 at the week-end !
I said before that I felt Paolo has nothing now to lose by staying. In fact he has a lot to gain if we get promoted.
Were his waves on Saturday to say goodbye if things don't pan out over the next few days ?
I would like to think they were but that he will stay to see the season out if he is able to bring players in. New loan players are something which is essential if the club is serious about going up as the squad is no longer strong enough to cope with any more injuries/suspensions
.
Time will tell of course but, "good things come to those who wait" !

multipostingshouldbeI'm struggling to see the point to this as we all have a choice whether to read the posts or make our own.
banned wrote:
I was NOT going to add anything to my original post but feel it is only right to explain a couple of things.
Although I have been active on this forum for around 12 months, like many I read more than I contribute.
I am NOT one of the "regulars", and only make this point so you know who you are NOT dealing with.
Oh Well....Villages and their Idiots!!
I guess that the reason why I bother to do this is because it fulfils a need. In the old days, Town fans didn't live in Mallorca, Brentford or Manchester. They lived in Swindon or thereabouts and could go down the local pub and swap opinions/argue/specu
late over a pint or two. And I'd bet you'd find that little habits, cliques, hierarchies would emerge.... You know the sort, the one who would come in an hour before closing time, demands the seat by the fire and talks b@llocks about how Fleming is the worst striker we've ever had.
So, my friend, if you don't like the Adver Arms, I'm sure there's another pub up the road that can provide some alternative chat.

However to justify my desire to remain annonymous from my annonymous username (that sounds really stupid when I read it back), may I direct you to smirgs eloquent reply of 2.51pm.
Unfortunately that is his level.
That would have resulted in more name calling from both sides and had I posted under my usual name, I would have felt the need to not just defend the point I was trying to make but also my otherwise good name.
That is the only reason for posting the way I have.
Anyway, time to revert back to my preferred username.

I just knew you were going to get a blast and this would have happened whatever username you used. Your mistake was to name names and if you do that with Grim you must expect an Exocet. Like I said his ascerbic wit has caused me and many others to laugh out loud and whilst much of it is probably said tongue in cheek I'd rather have his posts any day in front of some of the other anodine alternative comments we see on here. Glad you are reverting to what will hopefully be your more tolerant usual user I.D. :) That's all folks - now who said Amen???? Lol - lights up there multi there's a good chap!
