LADIES FOOTBALL: Seven up for Spitfires
6:00am Tuesday 12th February 2013 in Sport
SWINDON Spitfires Under 14s beat the weather to secure a 7-0 victory over local rivals Highworth Town Juniors in the first round of the Oxford Girls League Cup.
Spitfires raced into a 5-0 half-time lead but could only add a further two after the break, with the goals coming from Daniella Granato (4), Meghan Larkin (2) and Amy Connaghan. Their reward is a home tie with bottom club Carterton Town in the next round.
The club’s senior side’s game with league leaders Swindon Supermarine was called off due to the weather, but the two sides are due to meet again this coming Sunday at the Webb’s Wood Stadium.
The two sides have also been drawn to face each other in the semi-final of the Wiltshire FA Women's Cup, with the other tie seeing Melksham United hosting Swindon Town Ladies.
The games will be played on 17th March.
