WOOTTON Bassett boosted their survival hopes in Central 2 with a 4-3 win at home to Somerset Gryphons.

The hosts suffered an early blow after conceding just five minutes in, but moments later Patrick Law grabbed the leveller.

Despite being set back by two injuries, Bassett went in front after 15 minutes through Mark Turner from a short corner.

However, Gryphons swiftly went up the other end and equalised with a short corner of their own.

Bassett defended gamely in the aftermath but, 10 minutes before the break, Somerset went 3-2 ahead.

After the break the home side came out strongly and they forced a penalty flick which was converted confidently by Turner.

Bassett continued their momentum when they grabbed the winner 12 minutes from time, with Law completing his brace.

In the Premiership, Swindon’s relegation worries continued to mount as they were beaten 4-2 by visitors Taunton Vale.

With the Isambard side lacking in personnel, they were struggling from the start.

Swindon looked to sit back and hit their opponents on the break and Tom Wickens and Chris Parsons gave strong first-half performances.

However, midway through the first period Taunton took the lead after Wickens saved with his body on the line from a penalty corner, and the ball was smashed home.

Swindon began well after the break and Tom Gillingham tucked away the equaliser while Vale were temporarily down to 10 men.

Missed opportunities cost the home side with Vale scoring on the counter-attack and then again from a penalty corner.

A penalty corner goal for Swindon made it 3-2 but Taunton scored by the same method in the dying moments to wrap up the win.

Swindon face Bristol University and Whitchurch this weekend in matches that will play a huge role in their survival fight.
