HANNAH Miley cemented her place as Britain’s leading lady in the 400m individual medley by storming to gold at the British Gas International Meet last night.

The Swindon-born flyer triumphed in typical fashion, starting slowly over the first 50m before moving her way up to fourth after the butterfly.

Miley then stormed ahead over her favoured discipline of breaststroke and remained in control on the final freestyle leg to win in a time of 4:35.57 - just 1.4 seconds slower than her world silver medal pace in Shanghai last year - with Aimee Willmott second (4:38.94) and Keri-Anne Payne third (4:42.85).

Miley followed that up with seventh in the 200m freestyle - a race containing six British Olympians.

The Scot was never in contention, finishing in a time of 2:02.02, some way off the pace of winner Femke Heem in 1:58.49, with Rebecca Turner second (1:58.72) and Ellie Faulkner third (1:59.42).

Grant Turner was a disappointing seventh in the 50m free, failing to overcome a poor start in lane two and finishing in a time of 23.09, way off the pace set by American Anthony Ervin who won in 22.28.

The former Swindon Tigershark will hope to fare better in tomorrow’s 100m free.

Tilly Gray took sixth in 50m fly, an event she was only competing in for ‘a bit of fun’.

The Swindon swimmer clocked 27.46 behind winner and namesake Ottesen Gray (25.76), but has her stronger events in the 200m fly and the 100m fly to come over the weekend.

Craig Harris finished sixth in the final of the MC 200m freestyle.

The 14-year-old clocked 2:16.38 in the morning’s qualification process to book his second final in as many days.

Harris then shaved more than two seconds from that time in the showpiece, touching home in 2:14.36.
