NATHAN and Louis Thompson will this week be offered new contracts by Swindon Town, the Advertiser understands.

The two brothers, who hail from west Wiltshire and have both come through the Robins’ youth system, are highly rated by Town and the club hope to pin the pair down on long-term deals.

Right-back Nathan, currently out of action with an ankle injury, has made 40 appearances for Swindon since turning pro in the spring of 2009 but has only become a mainstay in the Town team this season following the loan exit of Paul Caddis to Birmingham.

Louis is a Wales Under 19 international and was recently selected for his country’s under 21 squad.

The 18-year-old, who has previously been monitored by Everton, made his debut in the FA Cup fourth-round defeat to Leicester in January 2012 and has since made one start and a further three substitute appearances in the red of Town.

The two players’ representative is believed to be set to meet with the club on Thursday to negotiate the terms of the respective arrangements.

For Louis the deal will be his first as a professional. The midfielder is currently a second-year scholar with the Robins but has been involved with the first team for the majority of the past 12 months.

He travelled to Italy with former manager Paolo Di Canio for the squad’s pre-season tour in July and has trained regularly with the League One promotion challengers since.

Another eight players, including Simon Ferry, Alan McCormack and Aden Flint, are also out of contract this summer.

Meanwhile, commercial director Gary Hooper has thanked the large number of Town fans who took advantage of the early bird season ticker offer.

More than 4,600 season tickets have now been sold and a series of initiatives, understood to include discounts in the club shop, are planned by the club to reward supporters over the coming months.

“The early bird season ticket was an extremely successful campaign and we’d like to thank everybody who took up the option,” said Hooper.

“At the last count we had over 4,600 supporters who have shown their loyalty to the club for another year and we would hope at some point in the next few months reward that loyalty by setting up various offers that they can take part in through the various avenues of the club.”
