SWINDON Town would be Alan McCormack’s preferred destination in 2013/14, but only on the right terms.

The Robins captain is waiting for the offer of a new contract to be presented to him by the club, who claimed on Thursday that talks between the respective parties were “ongoing”.

McCormack was supposed to sign an extension to his deal at the County Ground in September, as part of an agreement reached with former manager Paolo Di Canio, but the financial state of the club, the transfer embargo and the subsequent change of ownership meant that never came to fruition.

The midfielder has kept his counsel on the topic during a frustrating period but is now keen for his future to be resolved before he heads off on holiday with his young family.

“I had a contract agreed last September but unfortunately with the way the club went under a transfer embargo it wasn’t signed,” he told the Advertiser.

“They pulled the plug on the money and with the old chairman stepping away from the club and the new chairman coming in I still wasn’t able to sign it.

“Paolo in fairness kept promising me and kept promising me and told me it was just unfortunate when the transfer embargo was. When I actually did go in to sign it the club wouldn’t sign any more players or any more contracts. That was a little disappointing.

“We could have got it done in September but we thought there was no rush and it could go in January but I can totally understand where everyone is coming from.

“The gaffer wants to keep me, he wants me to stay and I’m happy to stay. We’re just negotiating a new contract now. I’ve no option on my deal, that came to an end at the end of the month, so my agent spoke to Lee Power and he’s going to try to get an offer in. We don’t know what it’s going to be.

“I won’t be taking a cut in wages. I’ve got a family now, I’ve got offers out there but I want this to be my first option. I want to stay here, I don’t want to be moving my family.”

McCormack revealed that other clubs are interested in recruiting him during the summer but, after another good season in red, Swindon is where he wants to be above all others.

“There are some good clubs who are making calls and I’ve spoken to a couple of clubs already. I’m just waiting to see what Swindon say and go from there. I’d rather stay here than go anywhere else but the offer has got to be right here,” he said.

“I need to know what my options are. I don’t want to be going on holiday not knowing what my options are next year.”
