BOTH Trust STFC and the STFC Supporters Club have responded to the answers chairman Jed McCrory gave to their questions raised at a meeting last month.

The Advertiser organised the meeting between representatives of both supporters groups and McCrory and general manager Steve Murrall, where the pair were asked a range of questions to do with the running of the club, ranging from the playing budget to the redevelopment of the County Ground.

McCrory’s answers to their questions were printed in Thursday’s Advertiser, and a statement released by Trust STFC thanks the Town chairman for his replies, but requested more detail in a number of key areas.

The statement read: “The Trust thanks Jed for taking the time to answer the questions put to him. Not every chair in his position would have done the same and we welcome his willingness to meet with fans representatives and his stated agreement to ongoing meetings.

“We look forward to working with the Supporters Club to make these meetings as effective as possible. We also want to praise the efforts of the club to engage the community – the big screen event over the weekend was a great example.

“However, whilst we believe this should mark the start of a positive, structured relationship with fans groups, it is disappointing that not all of the answers to these questions are as detailed as we had hoped. More comprehensive responses to some of the more contentious questions would have helped address concerns widely expressed by fans – who asked us to put these questions to the board. We believe that openness, transparency and accountability are extremely important to well-run football clubs which serve their communities.

“We would encourage fans to review these answers carefully, contact us with their thoughts and, most importantly, join the Trust. We want to represent the views of as many supporters as possible, as accurately as possible.

The supporters club have also responded to the answers and issued a statement. It read: “It was impossible to cover or satisfy, every point raised by fans, in this initial meeting and doubtless some fans will want to ask secondary questions on some of the responses. Nevertheless, this start can be regarded as the first positive step forward.

“The Supporters Club has always enjoyed excellent dialogue through informal meetings with previous boards on a number of issues and would hope this would continue as this often brings a swift response and resolution.

“However, if a more formal approach and reports are demanded by fans and is compatible with the board’s view and ambition moving forward, as has already been stated, we’ll be delighted to be part of that particular process.”
