MANAGER Glyn Evans insisted it would mean ‘everything’ to Swindon Town Ladies if they could win the League Cup for the first time on Sunday.

The Robins face Keynsham at Cirencester tomorrow having secured the County Cup with a 3-0 win over Swindon Spitfires last weekend, and will be looking to avenge their defeat to Newquay in last year’s final.

Town’s ladies lost both their regular season meetings with Keynsham 4-3, but Evans believes his side are capable of getting revenge if they play at their best.

“It would mean everything to me to win it, and it would mean everything to the players as well, because it would be our first time winning the League Cup,” he said.

“We got there last season for the first time in 10 years, and nobody thought we could get back there again, so it would be a massive achievement if we could do the double.

“We didn’t turn up last time and the girls froze, but two or three players have left and two or three have come in, so hopefully that will help us going into the game.

“Sunday will be tough, because we have played them twice this season and lost by the odd goal on each occasion.

“On reflection we maybe should have taken something from both games, and in the first game we had a player sent off in the first minute having already scored an own goal.

“We lost that game 4-3, and when we played them away from home we were 3-1 up at half-time and the girls thought it was all over, but we crumbled and yet again lost 4-3.

“There are goals in games between us, and we know we can beat them if we go out there and perform at our best.”

Keynsham play their home games on a 3G pitch, but Evans believes taking them on on grass could give them the edge they need, and pointed to their quarter-final win over rivals Oxford for a reason why they are capable of winning.

“If you look when they have been playing their home games they have been getting really good results, but when they have been playing on grass they have been getting the results but not scoring anywhere near as many,” he said.

“There is an advantage for them when they play on their 3G because they train on it all the time, but they won’t have that this time.

“When we played Oxford United Ladies in the quarter-finals, nobody outside ourselves believed we could do it.

“We really got into them at half-time and we came out with a fantastic result against a side who are going to end up winning the league.

“I believe we can do it, but we will have to play at the top of our game.”
