CASTROL boss Jake Henley was quick to plaster Craig Hogg with praise after the striker’s four goals gave his side the 4-1 win over Westbrook which clinched the Division Two title.

The three points wrapped up the division for Castrol with two games remaining after the club also won the Chairman’s Trophy, and Hogg’s four-goal haul ensured he pulled clear at the top of the club’s scoring charts.

Henley was impressed with his striker’s display, especially after Hogg missed Castrol’s 2-0 win over the same opponent on Thursday night after getting plaster in his eye while at work.

“Craig is a plasterer by trade, and he managed to get it in his eye and I got a phone call the night of the game from him saying he had to go to the hospital to get his eye looked at,” he said.

“We were left with a bit of a striker crisis, but we managed to still win the game which was good.

“He was back and raring to go on Sunday and he had a really good game, and the four goals he scored mean he is now the club’s top scorer.

“He has had a bit of banter flying around about his eye, but he is a good player who has done well for us this season.”

Henley believes his side’s consistency is what saw them win the league and earn promotion, and was full of praise for the ability and commitment his players have shown throughout the season.

“Our last two games are against the teams in second and third, so it was great to win it on Sunday,” he said.

“It has been a great season for everyone involved, and all the lads played their part and are really pleased with what we managed to do.

“I think we deserve it because we haven’t lost for 13 games, and we haven’t lost since November so we have been on a very good run.

“We have some cracking players who are all committed, and the other teams have their strengths, but consistency has been the key for us because there have been some tight games we have won that in other years we might not have.”

In Division One, New Century missed the chance to leapfrog Greyhound at the top of the table when the battle of the top two ended in a 3-3 draw.

In the North Berks League, Damian Harris struck twice for Lambourn Sports Reserves as they secured a 4-1 victory over Abingdon United Reserves.

Kieran Dundas and Matt Howe also found the net against the Oxfordshire side, who finish the season as runners-up in Division Two.
