CROFT Juniors Under 10s represented the North Wilts League in the Sussex Challenge Cup over the bank holiday weekend and finished as runners-up.

The tournament was based on seven-a-side mini soccer rules and played over two days, with eight other teams from their league’s top divisions in Essex, Surrey, Sussex and Warwickshire also participating.

Croft finished top of their pool and faced second-placed Kenilworth Town from Warwickshire in the final.

The match was a very even affair but Croft lost 1-0, the pain of defeat being eased somewhat by picking up the runners-up trophy from one-time Swindon manager, former England and Chelsea midfielder Dennis Wise. Back in the North Wilts League, Tom Miller grabbed a hat-trick as Wootton Bassett Town Yellow beat a determined Shrivenham & Watchfield side 8-0 in their last Under 13 Division 2 game of the season.

Euan Burke grabbed a brace while Jamie Byrom and Joe Fenton also netted, before Callum Bridges completed the scoring with a 30-yard screamer.

The clean sheet ensured Bassett only conceded nine goals in their 18 league games this season, and now play Wroughton in a play-off for the title.

In Under 15 Division 2 Blunsdon Colts secured a 5-2 win over FC Abbey Meads, with Mahbub Rahman (2), Jack Ahrens, Joe Adams and Thomas Howe all netting for the Colts.

Ferndale Rodbourne battled back from a goal down to record a great 2-1 win against second place Swindon Supermarine in Under 16 Division 1, with goals from Thomas Whitham and a late winner from Bradley Keene.

  • PURTON Youth overcame Swindon Youth to win the Wiltshire Under 15s County Cup at Devizes Town’s Nursteed Road ground.

The first half saw few chances created, although Purton's Sam Downs was inches away from opening the scoring when he hit the bar.

After the break Cameron Shaw's unstoppable free kick put Purton ahead, and although Swindon Youth twice went close towards the end, Purton held on.
